Critical Cards

Instead of Pathfinder's regular critical hits and misses we will use the card decks for both of those. Like usual critical hits are triggered within the weapon's threshold while critical fumbles are triggered on a 1.

Critical Hits

  • Confirmation roll with same values against target's AC
  • Draw cards equal to critical modifier – 1 (+1 for Weapon Focus and similar), choose one
  • Only PCs and special NPCs draw cards, regular NPCs/summoned creatures use the regular rules
  • Saving throw for effects are usually equal to the confirmation roll
  • Bleed follow the normal rules (DC 15 Heal check or magical healing)
  • A card may be banked to convert a confirmed fumble into a regular miss (only 1 card may be banked for this purpose)

Critical Fumbles

  • Confirmation roll with the same values, fumble is triggered if the attack would miss
  • GM draws one card (+ 1 for Weapon Focus and similar), chooses the most appropiate
  • Only PCs and special NPCs draw cards, regular NPCs/summoned creatures use the regular rules
  • Saving throw for effects are usually equal to the target's AC
